ACT OUT & ACT UP are part of the ACT NOW: Creative Youth CIC who believe the creative arts can help develop core life skills and support mental well being in all young people. ACT Write is another ACT NOW projects, developing creative writing skills. ACT NOW is supported by Red Phoenix Storytelling & Productions.
Weekly term-time drama groups for young people to provide sessions at a minimal cost, needing no auditions to qualify for a place and accessible to all levels and abilities. Sessions cover theatrical skills in acting, storytelling and spoken word, directing, producing, writing, stage-management, dance and singing. The core philosophy is to build core life skills and support mental wellbeing through performance practice, cultivating a safe and fun environment to encourage the development of cooperation, communication, confidence and creativity.
During the Autumn term we focus on our annual Pantomime (see Events page), during the Spring term we have a skills based project, and in the Summer Term participants create their own theatre pieces to present at the Summer Showcase.
ACT NOW: Creative Youth CIC is an Arts Award centre. Arts Award’s unique qualifications support children and young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. The programme develops skills for success in 21st century life including creativity, leadership, reflective thinking and communication skills. Young people also develop knowledge and understanding of their chosen art forms by completing various levels of Arts Award: Bronze/Silver/Gold Arts Award and for younger years can start out with Arts Award Discover/Explore. Arts Award is open to anyone aged 25 and under, and embraces all interests and backgrounds. Through Arts Award young people learn to work independently, helping them to prepare for further education and employment.
ACT NOW: Creative Youth CIC sessions are run by the directors of the CIC; Alice Fowle, Mitchell Taylor, and Dr Terrie Howey-Moore - all with years of youth and drama facilitation experience. Terrie Howey-Moore Ph.D of Red Phoenix Storytelling & Productions, Mitchell Taylor 8th Bard of Northampton and 9th Bard of Stony Stratford, and Alice Fowle who has a background in both creative arts and youth groups. Occasionally guest leaders will be invited in to demonstrate specialist skills.
TIMES & LOCATION:
ACT OUT & ACT UP takes place at York House Centre (usually main hall or Beechey room) in Stony Stratford.
We run 36 weeks of the year in line with term times averaging 12 weeks per term.
Term Time Thursdays 5.00 pm - 6.40 pm
Facilitators will be available from 4.15pm until 6.50pm.
COSTS PER CHILD:
£46 per full term*
£23.50 per half term
